Our table tennis team were invited at the last minute to take part as a qualifier in Medway Festival of Sport Night of Champions. Back at the mini youth games we came 9th but because of a school dropping out we were invited to play as the 8th team.
With some rallying around amongst the players and parents for lifts and with one practice session under our belts we headed off to Medway Park.
Our first match in the knockout tournament was a tough one against Pilgrim School especially for the girls as Pilgrim's girls' team who had represented Medway and Kent and won at the national schools' competition. Our boys also found it hard on so little practice and although all of their games were incredibly close (e.g. losing 11-10 in the final leg of 3) Pilgrim won that match.
Spirits were rallied and we won the next game comfortably putting us into the 5th/6th place playoff.
This was against Kingfisher School, another strong team. The final result here was 3 all leaving us in 5th equal position for the tournament and year. Out of nearly 40 schools who entered the mini youth games earlier in the year this is a fantastic result.
Thanks go to Mrs Lafferty who helped look after the team at the event and to Roger Chipperfield who gives up so much time to help our children play table tennis.
