On Thursday 23rd January our basketball team went to Medway Park to take part in the latest Mini Youth Games tournament. Playing on full size courts for the first time and with real (and very tall) basketball players for referees and only three practices the day could have been very daunting. Not for our team, we got off to a flyer winning our first four games. Our opposition hardly got out of their own half in two of them winning 24 nil and 20 nil.
Then came our first real test, St Andrews, always a strong team. After a really exciting end-to-end match we won 8-7, phew.
Our only slip up came against the overall winners of the tournament whose physicality and superior basketball skills caused us to go into our shells for rather heavy a defeat but we rallied in our last two matches to win both comfortably.
So another Night of Champions final beckons in the summer with the chance to get some more practice in we have high hopes for a good result.
We are all very proud of the team who were gracious in victory and coped well with defeat.
