On the best day of the year so far our table tennis team accompanied by Mr McDonald and super-coach Roger Chipperfield walked to the table tennis centre at the Howard School.
We knew we were well prepared for this tournament but several of our players were in their first tournament and were feeling the (self-imposed) pressure.
After a thorough warm-up we started our matches. We were scheduled to play six matches and in each one 3 girls and 3 boys played as one team. Each player played best of 3 legs to 11 points with no deuce.
By lunchtime we had won all of our first three matches 6-0 and confidence was growing but we knew we had some tougher opposition in the afternoon. Suitably refreshed we raised our games and won our afternoon matches 5-1, 4-2 and 4-2 giving us a game difference of plus 26.
When the final presentation came we were tied in first place on matches won so the countback went to game difference. This was close too, we were placed second to Pilgrim School who had a score of plus 28, and the winners who had an almost perfect score of plus 35, St Margaret's.
As ever the team were a credit to the school all day and huge thanks go to our wonderful coach Roger Chipperfield for his hard work and dedication to the team.
Night of Champions beckons in June at Medway Park.
