The 2nd Mini Youth Games event was hot on the heels of the first and we went to Medway Park for the basketball with very little preparation. A few lunchtime cramming sessions in the days before the games and we were off.
The basketball is known to be a tough event and therefore we entered the plate rather than the cup which runs as a separate and more relaxed competition. Initially we struggled with team organisation and had a couple of heavy losses but, gradually, we learned how to be more disciplined in defence and proactive in attack, and won a couple of games. These were followed by a hard-fought draw against a strong team and a very even but narrow loss in our last match.
Well done to everyone for improving so much through the day, we finished 8th in the plate which put us 35th for the tournament.
One unexpected bonus of the day was to have an introduction to the staff and activities from "Flip Out" and show our gymnastic skills.
On to the badminton next on 23rd November.
